ASCC - Digital Security Systems: Procurement Options

As with most technologies, there are several models for acquisition of digital security systems: purchased, managed, and hosted. We will examine these options more closely below.

Purchase option

In the purchase option above, the customer buys everything, and takes responsibility for installing it (possibly contracting out the installation), and operating it. This puts a premium on the in-house security expertise of the customer, and consumes operational manpower to attend to and maintain the equipment and manage the storage of information recorded.

Managed option

In the managed service option above, the customer buys a service, and the service company handles the installation, maintenance, and management of recorded information on the customer's premises. This option eliminates the need for the customer to make a capital expenditure and hire both expertise and manpower to properly mange and use the security system, by outsourcing those to the service provider.

Service option

The hosted option above goes beyond the managed service option by locating some of the human expertise and the head-end equipment off-site at the hosting company's location. In this case, the edge devices are obviously at the customer's sites, but the expensive head-end equipment is located at the hosting company's site where greater economies of scale for equipment and personnel can be realized. Again, the customer avoids the capital expense of the system, and benefits from an economy of scale in system operations.

Let us know if we can help with these options, and we will contact you promptly.
